Locate a moving company that fits your budget and all your needs. The states of Washington and Oregon have a number of moving companies for you to choose from. You just have to know where to look and choose the best quote. Make sure you do all of this before you start the packing process because who you choose could make all the difference in the world.

For instance, not all moving companies in Washington and Oregon will wrap your valuable items for you, or disassemble large pieces of furniture for you. Many companies will do this if you accept the extra charges, which could get pricey. Make sure all work is backed by good customer service.

Moving can be an extremely stressful time. The last thing a family needs to worry about is whether or not they can trust the moving company they’ve hired. You need a smooth move with little hassle. It’s a very touchy thing entrusting all of your family’s possessions to a group of individuals that no one knows.

Movers understand that once the truck is loaded and ready to go, after all the planning you’ve done, you aren’t going to demand that they unload everything. You have dead lines to meet and must get to your new location. Your only protection is to get everything in writing.

We recommend that with all movers that you get a binding quote before agreeing to move with any moving company. Make absolutely certain that there are no more hidden extras. Beware moving companies that send day workers rather than trained professionals. When a moving company is trying to cut costs you are the one that will suffer.

Some moving companies will tell you anything over the phone in order to get your business. They will tell you that they can move anything, but might show up at your house and say they cannot fit a certain item in their truck. Often they will insist that they need a larger truck, increasing the costs to you. At King Vanlines, we make sure that an over sized truck is utilized to handle unexpected items.

At the very least they should be dressed appropriately for a move. If not, it could be a sign that they might not take good care of your belongings. In some cases a company will say that they will bring a 24′ truck for the job, but might show up with a smaller truck or even a trailer in order to increase the number of trips and run up your bill.

There are a number of unethical moving companies out there out there and according to some watchdog groups the number of scams is increasing as is the number of companies committing them. It is up to you to make sure that you and your belongings are safe from unscrupulous Portland moving companies and Seattle moving companies.

Whether you plan on moving across the country or down the street, hiring a professional moving company can be a great idea, and here are some reasons that will educate you why…

1. Professional moving companies are just that - Professional! They have to licensed, bonded and insured. This means that your move should go as smoothly as possible.

2. Companies will be able to give you a quote for your move - this means that you can budget in advance as to how much your move will cost, and can figure out how much money you have left for other expenses. Their quotes should be free.

3. Professional moving companies offer full service moving and can pack your belongings for you - this is such a great service and really worth considering spending a little more for it. We often don’t appreciate just how long it will take to pack our belongings, but your moving company will send a team of professionals to your home who will have it done in next to no time, or if you prefer to save this additional expense you can choose to pack yourself but use the company’s packing materials.

4. Professional moving companies are bonded and insured - this means that all your worldly goods will be protected should something go wrong.

5. Your moving team who arrive on the day of your move are specially trained for this - they have health and safety training and know exactly how they should pick up heavy items without injuring themselves, yet safely transport your precious belongings without damage.

6. The team also knows exactly how they need to pack the truck, or container - so as to ensure that your belongings are safely secured and have the minimal chance of moving whilst in transit and being damaged.

7. Professional moving companies are well trained in the art of moving - meaning that they are an endless source of information and should be able to provide you all sorts of advice and help about the upheaval involved when moving house.

8. Should anything go wrong on your moving day, professionals should know what to do and how to cope in a crisis and remedy any situation quickly!

9. Moving companies can offer you competitive rates on other services too - such as storage, should you need it, and additional insurance cover amongst others.

10. Best of all, professional moving companies are there to do the hard work so you don’t have to, meaning that your moving day can be as stress free and easy-going as possible!

How long has the company been in business?

How long has the salesperson or estimator you’re speaking with been in the industry?

Is your agent certified through AMSA(American Moving And Storage Assoc.)?

Have any complaints been filed against the company? If so, what were they and what measures have they taken to rectify the situation? Check with the Better Business Bureau.

Does their van line have a formal quality ratings program? If so, what are these scores and can you see them?

Is there a third party service provider that will be involved in moving specialty items like a pool table, piano or grandfather clock? If so, who are they?

First impressions really do count. Judge your estimator on their professionalism, attention to detail and responsiveness to your inquiries. Also make sure they give a thorough explanation of their pricing and process. For example, if the estimate is binding or non-binding. These things can be very telling of the company philosophy and how comfortable you’ll be in working with them.

Additional tips:

If the company is local, drive by their establishment to see in what kind of condition the building and trucks are kept.

“Global” is one of the dominant buzzwords of the 21st century. We hear or read the word nearly everyday as companies increasingly strive to establish their “global” presence, either through merger and acquisition or expansion into overseas markets. With this change in emphasis towards a global marketplace comes new challenges and opportunities.

Because so many people are ceasing these opportunities by relocating, we’ve broken this article into some of the more challenging aspects of an international move.

Selecting an Internation Service Provider and Preparing for the Move

It is important to select a professional relocation service when moving overseas. As today’s worker decides to relocate overseas, the need arises for highly qualified service providers of international relocation services.

Many Folks in California, Washington, and Nevada inquire inquire about packing their own boxes. However, this process should be done professionally so that your belongings are properly protected and covered by insurance. Packing and loading an international shipment is truly an art. Everything will have to be packed and wrapped securely. Just imagine all of the steps involved in the process! There is inland transportation to port, port handling and loading the container on the ship, 4-6 weeks of overseas transit, port handling at destination and inland transportation to your new home.

TIP: Before you move, it is important to consider what items are better left in storage or sold. Many electronics and electric appliances will not function because different countries operate on different voltage or require unique plugs. Foreign housing floor plans and room size may limit some of your home furnishings as well.

California, Oregon and Texas Moving Company Insurance

Be sure to carefully read and understand the insurance liability policy of your carrier. It is recommended to purchase additional insurance because most homeowner policies do not cover international relocation and carrier liability is usually limited to 10 cents per pound. International transportation coverage begins at the time of loading and ends with delivery. Be aware that there is also limited coverage for jewelry, furs, cash, and other negotiable documents like stock certificates. You may also want to take small sentimental items with you for their security and to feel “at home” when you first arrive.

Because an overseas move does have risks, you will have to declare a value for your shipment. Make a complete valued inventory of all items being moved with the cost to replace these in the country you’re going to. For example, a crystal vase that was bought in the U.S. for $100 would be worth $140 in France. Make sure that you insure for the full value of the items being shipped. The total liability may be limited if you under insure. For example, if you insure for 50% of the total value and an item is damaged you may only be reimbursed for 50% of the repair cost. This is referred to as “co-insurance.” It is also important to add the cost of the move into the total insurance valuation. Most relocation companies can help with questions regarding valuation of your items.

You can also, contact King Vanlines and speak to one of their AMSA certified relocation consultant to discuss policies, procedures and moving quotes about an International Relocation assignment.

Moving can be a extremely stressful and expensive experience, and if you don’t take the necessary steps it can rapidly turn into a chaotic situation. So how do you find the right moving company that you can trust with everything that you own and feel comfortable in your decision? While you always can’t do the moving and packing yourself, we know that sometimes circumstances don’t allow that to work out. If that’s the case that you’re in, here is some helpful knowledge to get you on the right track.

Your next step is to pick up your phone book or search on the internet, or call your local real estate agents and find at least three moving companies that have offices in your area. Try to find moving companies that have been in business at least ten years, and do not hire a moving broker. Current consumer protection laws related to the movement of household goods only apply to Motor Carriers and not to Household Goods Brokers.

Set up appointments for them to come to your house and do an in-home estimate in the order of your least favorite to your most favorite company. If they won’t come to your house to do an in-home estimate, ask them why. Find out up front if the company will be doing the move themselves, or if they will be sub-contracting out the job. You should also visit their office and make sure that the company is who they say they are. Check out their trucks and storage facility. Make sure that their trucks are permanently marked with the company’s name.

As each moving company gives you an estimate based on what they see in your home, leave the paperwork out where the next moving company can easily see it. Ask questions about the difference in pricing since it may have to do with what services one company provides that another doesn’t, the amount of insurance included, or valuation of your belongings. Never hire a mover who gives you a quote based on cubic feet. Never, ever sign blank paperwork, and know what you’re signing. Read the document, understand it and don’t worry about making the moving company wait. Check to see if they are part of any Moving organizations. AMSA and CMSA are two very large moving and storage associations that require that their members adhere to strict guidlines when it comes to fees accessed for movinga and insurance needed to conduct a move.

Also, while you have the sales rep’s attention, get as much information about the company that you can such as:

* Full company name and any DBA names (doing business as)
* How long they have been in business
* Company address
* Phone numbers (local and toll-free)
* DOT and MC license numbers
* Company web site address
* Email addresses
* Get references (and call them)

Many states make it easy to search for corporate information online. We’ve made it easy to find each state’s corporation search. Just select the state on our Links page that your moving company is based. If you can’t search online, then call your secretary of state’s office and ask for the articles of incorporation. You can use the Articles of Incorporation that you find to verify how long your moving company has been in business, as well as the company’s address and owner’s name.

Remember those DOT and MC license numbers that you wrote down? Well, it’s time to make sure that your moving company not only has the license authority to perform your move, but if they have the insurance to make it legal! Let’s start with SaferSys.org.

SaferSys is the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) web site to search for motor carrier license information. First click on Company Snapshot in the center of the page. In the center of the next web page, you’ll see a search area. Put in your company’s DOT license number, and click ‘Search’. If the DOT number that they gave you is accurate (which it better be or it’s time to move on again) you’ll be presented with a screen with lots of information. Here are some key elements to the SaferSys report:

* The company name, address, and phone numbers should match what the company gave you.
* On the top right of the form, there is a field titled ‘Out of Service’. This must read ‘No’ and the ‘Out of Service Date’ field should read ‘None’.
* The two fields labeled ‘Power Units’, and ‘Drivers’. This should give you a good indication of the size of the company. Here’s a thought… if your company told you that they do a hundred moves a month but they only have two trucks, how likely do you think that is?
* Another field labeled ‘MCS-150 Form Date’ may contain the date that the license was applied for.
* Next, under Operation Classification, there should be an X next to ‘Auth for Hire’.
* Under Carrier Operation, if you are moving out of state there should be an X next to ‘Interstate’.
* Under Cargo Carried, there should be at least an X next to Household Goods.
* You should also check their inspection record. This lists their inspection record as well as the national average. If your company’s average is much higher than the national average, or if they have been in business for three years, but don’t have any inspections, then something is wrong.

Everything okay there? Good! Let’s check their insurance. At the bottom of the SaferSys report there is a link titled ‘FMCSA Licensing & Insurance site’. Click on it.

This should bring you to a screen that gives you two options to view the company’s insurance details. Let’s go the easier route and click on the button labeled ‘Screen’. Again, you’ll be presented with the moving company’s name, address, and legal name. There is also some very valuable information below:

* Under the column ‘Authority Type’ there are three listings: Common, Contract, and Broker. The column to the right with the header ‘Authority Status’ tells you if their authority is active. Your mover needs to have at the very least ‘Common’ listed as active. If either ‘Application Pending’ or ‘Revocation Pending’ doesn’t say ‘NO’ for common authority, then something is wrong.
* The last table lists the insurance required, and the insurance on file for your mover. A moving company is required to have both BIPD ($750,000 minimum), and Cargo insurance filed with the FMCSA. Under the heading ‘Insurance on File’ if BIPD says $0, or if Cargo says ‘NO’ then run, don’t walk away from this company.

The good news is that the hardest part of this research is over with. You should make a quick check with the Better Business Bureau. Now, let me make a point here. The BBB is a business with members that pay them dues. Now, if you were running a business and belonged to an organization that bad mouthed your business practices, do you think that you’d keep paying them dues? Do you think that the BBB wants to lose members by bad mouthing them? Nope, and nope are probably your answers, and you’re right. Use the BBB reports as a guide. Call up the BBB office(or visit King Vanlines BBB Profile) and ask them about the number of complaints that your company has on file. Don’t take a ’satisfactory’ rating at face value.

One last check you should do is to call King Vanlines and speak to a certified AMSA Relocation Consultant and educate you on what Moving companies are legally able to charge customers for transportation of belongings dictated by Federal Regulations.

Are you planning on moving this year? Each year, a many individuals and families make the decision to relocate. If you are planning on becoming one of those individuals, there are a number of crucial factors that you should first consider. One of those things involves the hiring of a moving company. When doing your research, be sure to check if the moving company is certified by AMSA(American Moving and Storage Association).

If you were searching for Portland Moving Company reviews, then read this guide and see how King Vanlines will educate you on your Oregon moving needs.

If you are moving to Oregon or moving from Oregon, you may want to consider hiring the services of a Oregon moving company. Most individuals and families make the decision to hire a moving company because it is easier on them. A moving and relocation company allows most relocating individuals and families to continue about their daily activities, without having to worry about how their belongings will get from one place to another. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, you are advised to, at least, consider using a Oregon moving company.

To hire a Oregon moving company, you will first have to familiarize yourself with all of your available options. You can do so by examining your local phone book, especially if you already reside in the Oregon area, or you can also use the internet. Whichever search method you choose, it is likely that you will find a large number of results. These results are likely to include a number of different Oregon moving companies. Before deciding on one particular Oregon moving company, it is important that you examine a number of factors. These factors should include the cost of services, the type of services offered, and the area that each moving company focuses on.

Most Oregon moving companies will cover a wide portion of Oregon State. In fact, you should also be able to find at least one Oregon moving company that will help you move to or from another state. The distance that a Oregon moving company covers is important when choosing a company to do business with. This is because you will not want to spend your time researching a Oregon moving company that is unable to offer you assistance.

It is also important to examine the cost of services. You will find, in most cases, that each Oregon moving company sets their own fees. These fees may be large, small, or average, when compared to traditional moving costs. Perhaps, the fees that you will be charged should be one of the first things that you should examine. This will allow you to find another Oregon moving company if you are unable to afford the services of your first choice.

While the overall cost of using a Oregon moving company is important, it is also important to examine what is included in those fees. The more services that are included, the higher the fees will be, on most occasions. Of course, a Oregon moving company will transport your belongings from one location to the next; however, they may also perform additional duties. Those duties may include packaging up your belongings or even storing them at an offsite location. If additional services are included in the cost and you do not need to use those services, you are advised against paying for them.

If you found this guide useful, please call King Vanlines, and see if their certified relocation specialist can assist you in your moving needs. Most people who are searching for Oregon Moving companies were also searching for Portland moving company, or Portland movers or cheapest moving options and also moving companies ratings in Oregon.

By keeping the above mentioned points in mind, you should be able to find an affordable Oregon moving company or Portland relocation company to do business with. The research and careful examination, mentioned above, is important because you will be giving your treasured belongings to people that you do not know.

Moving From Washington can be one of the most stressful events in our lives. However, by getting organized and planning ahead, you can prepare your family for a smooth move. Picking the “right” moving company can make all the difference in the world.

Check with friends and neighbors to see if they can recommend a Washington based mover. Call your local Better Business Bureau or consumer office to find out if a Washington mover you’re considering has been hit with complaints. Get the names of two or three movers from the phonebook or companies you’ve seen around town. Go to the companies’ headquarters and look around. Is the place clean and organized? Do the trucks appear to be in good shape? You can tell a lot by looking at a place, and you can make sure it’s really there.

* Moving Companies - Whether this is your first or fifth move, moving to a new home or even a new town can be an exciting experience.

* Moving from one WAshington to another? Your mover must have authority from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Call the agency at 800-832-5660 and opt for Menu No. 1.
* Call the AMSA’s membership department at 703-683-7410 to see if the mover is a member or to see if a company is an agent for a van line.
Also, avoid moving at the end or beginning of the month when the schedules of most moving companies are filled. You can save time and money by planning your move for a weekday instead of busier weekends. And remember the worst time of the year to move is around three summer season holiday weekends: Memorial Day, July Fourth, and Labor Day. They’re long weekends and they come at the end of the month.
* The Estimate: The cost of an interstate move, according to the AMSA, is based on the weight of your belongings and the distance they are shipped, plus the amount of packing and other services you may need. Movers will give you an estimate to help you anticipate the cost of your move - but only after they’ve come to your house. Real professionals will not give estimates over the phone,. They will send someone to the home and find out what the customer’s needs are.
* The AMSA says you can help out the movers by showing them every single item to be moved, including stuff in the attic, basement, garage, closets, and even under the beds.

There are different types of estimates:

* Binding estimates are written agreements that guarantee the cost of the move based on the items to be moved and the services listed on the mover’s estimate sheet.
* Non-binding estimates are not guaranteed. They approximate the cost based on the mover’s survey of the items to be moved, with the final cost determined after the shipment is weighed. There is no guarantee the final cost will not be more than the estimate. Movers determine weight by putting the van on a scale before and after it is loaded.

Washington Moving Company Types and links

Companies offering local and long distance moving and truck rental services. Many offer additional moving tools, including cost calculators, tip sheets, and moving supplies. Book or get estimates online from some. You can Call King Vanlines and speak to their Certfied Relocation Specialist and discuss your Moving and Packing options from the Washington area.

Relocating your home or office in such as Las Vegas or Reno is a tall order because you literally (and physically) have to transfer your life and your possessions from one location to another. That’s probably why so many people avail of the services of a moving or relocation service. However, doing this opens up a new set of challenges.

Since most of the items that you’ll be transferring will be important to you and your family, the mover has to be ‘gentle’ or cautious when handling your possessions. You’ll probably also want a company that has a good reputation in the areas that they service such as California and Nevada, as well as a very competitive moving service package - e.g. provides free moving supplies. Finding one company out of all the hundreds of relocation services out there is easy. Looking for all of those traits in one is another matter altogether.

Choosing among Relocation and Moving Services Takes Time

You are looking for a lot of traits in a single Nevada Relocation company - and this ideal moving company is bound to be elusive). Thus, give yourself ample time to come up with the right movers to help you on moving day. Remember, it’s not enough to pore over the phone book. It’s also important to ask family members, friends and acquaintances because these people could give honest feedback about the services of your prospective moving company.

Moving is NOT All about the Price

Remember, price is just one of the factors in picking out a moving company. Value-added services, reputation or reliability and previous experience are also very big factors to consider as well.

If you know how to deal with the paperwork, you’ll know that insurance with the moving company is another major item to consider. To help you decide, try listing your choices and then put the factors that you’re looking for beside each one. Assign a range of values (1 to 5, for example) based on how important that factor is to you and then rate each moving company on your list according to your criteria. That way, you’ll see how each moving service provider truly measures up in terms of your service criteria.

Let the Relocation Service Know Whats Important to You

Before you go out and call on all the moving companies in Nevada or California, take stock of what you actually intend to move. That means listing down the items that are necessary once the move has been made, as well as foregoing the items that would just weigh you down. By bringing along a list with you as early as the canvassing stage, you give a Nevada moving company a pretty good idea of how much you intend to move. This way, they can give you a pretty good idea of how much your move will cost.

Note that, when a Nevada moving company price quote is given, it’s not exactly what the company will charge you on moving day itself. Ask explicitly about what kind of price quote was given to you. Is it a Flat Rate, or Per Pound Rate? There are some quotes that do give the actual amount (though this is rare, and price adjustments are still made on moving day), while there are those that just give the hourly or daily rate (so you could figure it out yourself). Then there are those that give a maximum figure. Find out which one you’re getting so that you don’t give yourself (and your wallet) a very big surprise on moving day. Let a King Vanlines Certified Relocation Consultant guide you through the process of Relocating your goods from Nevada to any US State.

Moving, it is something that occurs on a daily basis. Each year, millions of individuals and families make the decision to relocate. If you are contemplating on moving to or from the Seattle area, you will find that moving is not always as easy as it seems. When many folks think of moving, many think of all of the work that they will have to do; however, it is also important to think about the cost of moving. Unfortunately, for many individuals, relocating is expensive, often times more expensive than most can afford.

The fees of moving is what leads many individuals to believe that they would be better off moving themselves. While you may prefer to move yourself, you may also want to think about hiring the services of a Seattle moving company.
